Between you and me
Students bring Ordsall Hall gossip to life
Thursday 17 May, Friday 18 May and Tuesday 22 - Friday 25 May, 6.30pm
Ordsall Hall
The livelier side of Ordsall Hall is being brought to life by University of Salford students over the coming two weeks.
Stories about the Hall’s maids, masters, soldiers and even ladies of the night are among those being created by performing arts students from the University or Salford. Under the title ‘Between you and me’, visitors can eavesdrop on a topsy-turvy history evoked with gossip, echoes, comedy and drama during the performances this week and next.
The second-year students have created unique indoor and outdoor heritage interpretations based on the many biographies and stories associated with Ordsall Hall, which reopened in 2011 after a £6m renovation, and still contains some of its 14th century structure.
They worked in partnership with staff and curators at the Hall and lecturers Richard Talbot, Roland Metcalf and Niki Woods, who all have experience of professional performance, directing or production. The work is part of a public engagement project funded by the University of Salford School of Media, Music and Performance and supported in kind by Salford Community Leisure.
Performances: Thursday 17 May, Friday 18 May and Tuesday 22 - Friday 25 May, 6.30 - 7.30pm
Admission: £4 (£3 concessions), tickets available on the door. Suitable for all ages.
Venue: Ordsall Hall, Ordsall Lane, Salford M5 3AN
Please note: Some parts of the performance take place outdoors. Press dress appropriately.

'The burden' until Tuesday 3rd July at Clifford Whitworth Library
Two linked exhibitions of the works of artist Albert Adams are currently on view at the Working Class Movement Library, Salford and the Clifford Whitworth Library, University of Salford. ‘Incarceration’ highlights his response to acts of political oppression and recent atrocities, ranging from Darfur to Abu Ghraib and the imprisonment of political prisoners on Robben Island. ‘The burden’ offers an overview of Adams life and career and his exploration of his own sense of identity.
Albert Adams was born in Johannesburg in 1929. Unable to pursue his education as an artist because of the apartheid policy he moved to the UK in 1953 to study at the Slade School of Art. Adams is recognised today as a gifted Expressionist painter and printmaker.
